AI recommendation
Your vessel may FAIL on this proxy. Try engine power −10%, hull cleaning, or propeller polishing — or combine EPL with dry-dock energy-saving devices.

FAQ — EEXI compliance
What is EEXI?
Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index — a design/attained index under MARPOL Annex VI for existing ships (estimates only on this page).
How is EEXI calculated?
Simplified proxy: power × SFOC × Cf / (capacity × Vref). Class-approved calculations include FW/ice/correction factors and approved NOx/EPL documentation.
What is the difference between EEXI and CII?
EEXI is primarily a design / technical measure; CII is operational carbon intensity over a year of sailing.
What is SHaPoLi?
Shaft Power Limitation — limiting shaft power via engine/shaft control as an alternative or complement to Overridable Engine Power Limitation (EPL).
Does every ship require EEXI?
Most cargo and passenger ships ≥400 GT in applicable ship types need EEXI verification. Exemptions exist for certain categories — check class/flag.
How can I improve EEXI without replacing the engine?
EPL/SHaPoLi, propeller upgrades, energy-saving devices, hull coating, and approved derating can reduce attained EEXI.
Is EPL mandatory?
Not always — it is one common compliance pathway when attained EEXI exceeds required. Class must approve the limitation method and override procedures.
What happens if a vessel fails EEXI?
It must implement approved technical measures and re-verify before continuing compliant operations under the applicable scheme.
